FESTA DE SAO JOAO [Feast of St. John]: Porto, Portugal
Wonderful dance performances, colourful parades, delicious barbecued sardines, amazing bonfires and magnificent fireworks- from the evening of June the 23rd until June the 24th everyone in the city of Porto, the city that gave port wines their name, is out on the streets.
Together they pay a tribute to Saint John the Baptist in a party that believes in mixing the sacred and the profane traditions. It is regarded as one of the liveliest street festivals in the whole of Europe.
THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON FESTIVAL: Alsoors, Hungary
Rush in your bloodstreams, men? Definitely born to be wild! Each year die-hard enthusiasts of this legendary vintage motorbike don their leather costumes and head their mightiness for the North-eastern shores of Lake Balaton.
From the 6th of June to 10th of the same month, one can watch breathtaking stunt shows, barrel-rolling contests and arm wrestling championships at the Harley-Davidson festival in Alsoors which is located in Hungary.
THE STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL: Martell, South Tyrol
From ice smoothies to milk shakes and of course ice-creams, strawberries are an inevitable favourite.. At a thrilling height of about 1300 metres above the sea level, they grow gracefully and ripen slowly to get a peerless aroma.
In the month of June (23rd to 24th) the valley of Martell dedicates a very unique yet beautifully delicious festival to these tasty berries with plenty of sweet delicacies prepared by none other than the natives of the valley. You can have a glimpse of their giant strawberry pie below.
THE VIKING FESTIVAL: Hafnarfjordur, Iceland
